Kara Platoni is a science reporter from Oakland, California, who will go just about anywhere for a weird adventure. For her book, We Have the Technology, she sofa surfed her way around the world, hanging out in biohacker basements, surgical wards and military bases to learn about the cutting edge of sensory perception research. Her book collects 11 stories from perfumers, picklers, clockmakers, transhumanists, virtual reality pioneers and many others to illustrate how their experiments with mind and body may affect how we sense the world tomorrow, and how much we may be able to transform the experiences we have in our own minds. Kara teaches narrative reporting at UC Berkeley’s Graduate School of Journalism, and freelances for many science publications. She is on Twitter (@karaplatoni) and can also be found on her website, karaplatoni.com. Kara first visited with us on Episode 258 - Hacking Humans (published 3/29/2016).
